One of the best things about being in San Francisco is that there are many Japanese transplants and when there are many people, customs, food, and drink follow suit. All the yummy gummy candies, sake, and soft drinks are available in the asian super markets and there are a plethora of sushi restaurants that come up with creative sushi rolls that would never dare to exist in Japan.
Last weekend in my town there was a small Japanese festival and I came upon a booth selling glorified rice balls called Onigilly , originally called, Onigiri in Japan. Hearing the word Onigilly makes me want to drop dead, but this was a super health oriented- served with brown rice- snack topped with tuna, eggplant, seaweed, strawberries etc. your choice.
Eggplant was delish! My friend was shocked and I heard her say to herself, "When did Onigiri's get so fancy?" I would like to know too!

I wish I could remember all the names I once knew that were related to noodle dishes. I can't remember any of them.
I have many pictures of that tori and will post several of them and of other similar toris that I have pictures of in and around Sendai.
